# Embracing Fitness Growth During Mercury Retrograde

Chapter 1: Understanding Mercury Retrograde's Impact

In my previous post, I discussed how Mercury goes into retrograde four times a year, leading to various astrological disruptions.

Is this scientifically validated? Honestly, I’m not concerned about that. #sorrynotsorry

I invite you to view Mercury Retrograde as an opportune moment for self-improvement. If someone suggests that everything is slowing down and you can’t change it, the worst-case scenario is that you embrace this slower pace to actually accomplish tasks.

That sounds like a win-win, regardless of cosmic events.

So, how do we capitalize on this?

Consider your training.

Mercury Retrograde lasts for three weeks, starting from May 10th and concluding on June 2nd. For those who prefer to take their time, there’s also a shadow phase before and after these dates. But if you’re new to astrology, I recommend focusing only on what you can manage comfortably.

During these three weeks, choose three specific aspects of your health or fitness regimen to concentrate on.

For instance: Balance.

I dislike feeling unsteady, whether I’m lifting weights or not. Therefore, a fitting goal for me during Mercury Retrograde is to take an additional 10–30 seconds during my one-legged exercises (known as “unilateral” training in technical terms) to stabilize my stance and engage my stabilizing muscles. This "study time" enhances my overall balance by strengthening the neuromuscular pathways needed to maintain stability.

Push-ups.

If I complete a set and know I could push myself further, what’s the sensible choice? To do more, of course.

Stretching.

I’ve mentioned my hypermobility before, which allows me to skip stretching for extended periods. However, neglecting it can lead to numerous issues, so I need to commit to more stretching. It’s essential to hold myself accountable.

Set goals that allow for imperfection. This isn’t the time for self-criticism; Mercury Retrograde is about embracing imperfect beginnings, awkward training moments, and candid selfies that may remain private for personal motivation.

Whatever strategies you adopt, you’ll emerge from this period not only stronger but also more self-aware.
