Embracing Transformation: How to Cultivate Inherent Wisdom

Written on

Chapter 1: The Journey of Self-Discovery

As I sit at my desk, the cursor on my screen blinks rhythmically, a reminder of my hesitation. I'm searching for the perfect words to uplift and support my readers.

“What should I express?” I ponder. “What valuable insights can I share today?”

Then a nagging thought interrupts, “Who am I to think my words hold significance for anyone?”

Indeed, who am I? I am a woman in my seventies, shaped by a myriad of life experiences—both highs and lows. Like many, I’ve faced trauma, criticism, and moments of feeling devalued. Yet, I’ve also known the power of unconditional love, sincere appreciation, and profound respect.

Time and again, my readers affirm that my words resonate with them. While I appreciate this feedback, I can’t help but feel a flicker of doubt. Is it imposter syndrome? To some extent, yes. However, it’s more than just my insecurities; I genuinely wish to assist others.

Life is rarely a smooth journey for any of us. Many suggest that our struggles are lessons meant to enrich our lives, teaching us to navigate through difficulties and emerge stronger.

The challenges I’ve faced have imparted valuable lessons about healing and resilience. My determination to endure the storms of life has led to beautiful moments of joy. I have no regrets.

During my first marriage, the turbulence was a daily reality, particularly during my divorce. My husband’s job took him across the country, leaving my young daughter and me often in the dark about his whereabouts. He missed birthdays and significant events, showing little acknowledgment of our sacrifices.

He even refused to pay child support, dismissing my efforts with the remark, “You’ll just waste it on partying.” What single parent has time for leisure while juggling two jobs to provide for their family?

Inspiring message about self-love

“I can do nothing for you but work on myself…you can do nothing for me but work on yourself!” ~Ram Dass

Fortunately, I had the unwavering support of dear friends. One in particular, whom I’ll refer to as Joe, practiced Zen Buddhism and offered wisdom beyond his years. I spent countless hours meditating in the small pyramid he built in his backyard. His compassionate guidance always brought me back to the present moment, urging me to ask, “What can I control?”

“My response to my husband’s actions or inactions,” I would reply, realizing that these were new, uncomfortable truths. It was tempting to blame my estranged husband for my unhappiness.

Joe’s encouragement helped me shift my focus from blame to empowerment. Through his teachings, I discovered my inner strength, learned to navigate challenges, and create my own happiness.

One significant lesson from Joe was that this wisdom was not something I needed to travel far to find. I didn’t require an ashram in the mountains or extensive meditation retreats to achieve the peace I sought.

Just like Dorothy learned from Glenda, we all have the capacity to return home to our true selves and shape the life we desire. This understanding is our inherent wisdom, always accessible to everyone.

In those years of emotional support for my daughter and securing our basic needs, I learned to empower myself to take the next step. I practiced being present by acknowledging my feelings, which taught me that I could choose my emotional responses and actions.

As time passed, I continued my journey of self-improvement. With an open heart and mind, I met the wonderful man who would become my beloved Craig, and I fell deeply in love. Those years were truly the most beautiful of my life.

Chapter 2: The Path to Awakening

Awakening is a term often used in spiritual discussions, referring to the act of truly seeing what is present in our lives. It’s a misconception to believe that awakening eliminates all suffering.

Life is a blend of joyful and painful experiences, and while some moments may feel unbearable, we possess the strength to endure.

“The first step to awakening is awareness.” ~Lee Byrd

Awakening means consciously recognizing our inherent wisdom, allowing us to weather life’s challenges and embrace our ability to heal. This practice requires intentional effort and a commitment to liberate ourselves from past burdens. When our past weighs us down, it hinders our ability to be present.

None of us are exempt from suffering; we all face our unique challenges. Our journey revolves around healing ourselves and supporting one another in our distinct ways. Let’s help one another piece our lives back together more beautifully and ensure we all thrive. ~Ram Dass

How can I assist you? What valuable insights can I offer? I genuinely wish to support your healing journey in your own special way.

Life is fleeting, precious, and delicate. We are all children of the Divine, deserving of lives filled with our dreams. I believe that living those dreams is the essence of life itself.
