Chapter 1: Transitioning from Tags to Kanban

For a considerable period, I found myself utilizing tags to compile a task list on my daily notes page. However, my preference has shifted towards a more effective method. Now, when I identify my top three essential tasks for the day, I create links to the relevant Kanban board associated with each project. This approach allows me to track the history of my work on specific projects through backlinks.

I categorize my projects into Work and Personal, placing links to a Master Kanban for each category on my Index page. My Kanban board features distinct columns for projects that are Currently Active, those that are Upcoming, and options that are Under Consideration. I find immense value in these pages as they clearly indicate which project requires my immediate attention.

The master page encapsulates a vision of my goals, articulated as if I were reflecting on the successful completion of the project with satisfaction.

Section 1.1: Structuring Your Projects

Each project I undertake has its dedicated master page along with a linked task page. The master page not only outlines my vision but also includes valuable notes and links that aid in the overall management of the project.

Subsection 1.1.1: Streamlining with Text Expansion

I’ve implemented a text expansion snippet within Keyboard Maestro that allows me to quickly add a Kanban board to any page, complete with the necessary card titles and links for each board. During this setup, I discovered that using the "Insert text by typing" option in Keyboard Maestro didn’t transfer correctly to Obsidian. Switching to "Insert text by pasting" resolved this issue.

After integrating the Kanban plug-in, I suggest establishing a keyboard shortcut to easily toggle between Kanban and Markdown views for seamless editing.
