Facing Fears: A Journey Through Rejection and Growth
Written on
Chapter 1: Embracing Vulnerability
This narrative recounts a significant challenge I undertook in 2016 aimed at conquering my anxiety about approaching attractive women. To be frank, it was a daunting task—one of the toughest I've faced. Each day brought a wave of anxiety as I prepared to engage with more women, and there were countless moments when I regretted even starting this journey. To add to the pressure, I wasn't just keeping this experience to myself; I shared my progress publicly on Facebook and Reddit, which intensified the fear.
However, looking back, that period is far behind me. Thanks to my commitment to confronting my fears, I can now engage with women effortlessly, no matter the setting. This experience taught me a valuable lesson: time is relentless, and what seems permanent is often fleeting. It also made me realize that one must choose between the temporary discomfort of change or the enduring discomfort of stagnation.
#youdecide Now, let’s dive into the challenge.
Day 30 of 100 Women in 50 Days: Encounter 1 – Unknown
Before I proceed, I must share a delightful message I received from a follower: "This is really random, but I've followed bits of your blog and your YouTube for ages, and I think I saw you today around Shoreditch, but I was too shy to go up and say hello. I was actually a bit starstruck, lol, but anyway hope you're alright and your challenge is going well!?"
If you've been following my journey but haven't reached out, please do! I’d love to hear from you and learn how you found me.
Despite my usual enthusiasm, I felt an unexpected lack of confidence today. It’s perplexing—there was no clear reason behind it. I spent the day feeling anxious about the task at hand, almost like a shadow of my confident self.
One curious aspect of undertaking a personal growth challenge is the unpredictable nature of progress. Unlike a fitness regimen, where improvement is typically linear, my journey here felt more erratic. For example, if you were on a weight loss plan, you'd expect gradual success, not the scenario where you lose weight only to gain it back temporarily. That’s exactly how I felt today—unmotivated and reluctant to approach anyone.
As I walked past numerous women I would normally engage with, my self-esteem took a hit, and it wasn't until evening that I finally gathered the courage to act. While at Clapham Junction, I spotted a brunette outside a pastry shop and complimented her appearance. She graciously accepted the compliment but seemed uninterested in continuing the conversation, leading to an awkward exchange.
After about a minute of uncomfortable silence, I made my exit to spare us both from further unease.

Encounter 2 – Unknown
The second woman I approached was a blonde who passed by on the street. I complimented her, and while she smiled and thanked me, she continued walking away. I felt a mix of disappointment and relief for having completed my daily challenge.

The third woman was a business professional focused on her laptop at Starbucks. By this time, I had already met my two daily goals, but despite my earlier trepidation, I felt a rush of freedom once those interactions were done.
I approached her table and said: ME: Hey. HER: Hey. ME: I have a compliment and a question. You look stunning, and can I join you for a few minutes? HER: That’s really nice of you, but I can’t. I’m racing against a deadline and also have a boyfriend. ME: No problem! By the way, what’s your arm workout routine? HER: I don’t do anything. ME: Seriously? HER: I haven’t been to the gym in a year; I’m just naturally strong. ME: Wow, sounds like you’ve got great genetics! Anyway, take care.
After I left her, she resumed typing furiously for exactly 2.23 minutes before disappearing as if she were in a race against time.
Reflections
Day 30 is officially complete, and I’m nearing the finish line of this challenge. It’s surreal to think this journey will conclude in just a few weeks. I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s astonishing how much my mental state influences the outcomes of these approaches.
During my interactions with the first two women, I felt downcast, which clearly affected our exchanges. In contrast, by the time I spoke to the third woman, I was more in tune with my true self, which positively shaped our interaction.
With 30 days down, there are only 20 left to go!
