Understanding Weekly Resolutions
Happy Monday! Am I being too enthusiastic?
Achieving and maintaining success isn't about leaving things to chance. At the beginning of the month, I posed a question: Do you establish monthly resolutions? If you’ve read that piece, you may feel I’m pushing it, especially since it performed exceptionally well. Perhaps I am, or maybe it's simply part of my strategy for achieving my weekly target of earning $100 on Medium.
Now that you’re aware of my objectives, let me ask: Do you establish weekly resolutions or are you taking the risky approach of winging it?
Why Not Just Wing It? It's Only a Week
If you’re not aiming for a fulfilling life, winging it might work for you. However, for those seeking abundance, having a weekly plan is essential. Remember the wise words of Benjamin Franklin: "Failing to plan is planning to fail." This is especially true for entrepreneurs, Medium writers, and freelancers; planning is crucial.
How and What to Plan?
Before diving into your planning process, consider the following questions:
- What do you hope to achieve this week?
- What are your specific goals?
- How do you plan to reach these goals?
As a Medium writer, your goals may encompass the following areas:
Spiritual Growth:
Reflect on your beliefs. How do you intend to nurture your spiritual self this week? For instance, as a Christian, I aim to dedicate 15 minutes each morning to devotional time before breakfast.
Physical Wellness:
Physical health significantly impacts every other facet of life. What are your fitness aspirations? Personally, I aim for flexibility and overall wellness by committing to at least 5000 steps daily.
Financial Objectives:
Financial stability is vital! Each day, we ponder, "How can I increase my income today?" While it may sound bleak, to live fully, we must consider finances. What passive income can I generate? How much do I need to save for a summer vacation? For me, I require around $1200 monthly to live comfortably, and ideally, I’d like to reach $3000 to support my dreams. My plan includes:
- Earning $1000 from Medium
- Making $1000 in profit from my books, journals, and planners
- Generating an additional $1000 as a freelance copywriter or blog writer
This results in a target of $250 weekly from each area. Are these SMART goals? Absolutely!
Mental Health:
How will you prioritize your mental well-being this week? Will you allocate time and resources for activities like reading, exercising, or meditating? My goal is to meditate in nature for 10 minutes daily.
Social Connections:
Finally, consider your social life, encompassing both platonic and romantic relationships. How will you engage with friends? Will you host a dinner or share your feelings with someone special? What’s your plan for your social interactions this week?
Yogi Berra once said, "If you don’t know where you are going, you'll end up someplace else."
The Importance of Planning
Am I suggesting that setting plans guarantees success? Not necessarily! For instance, last week, I aimed to earn $300 to address a financial issue but only managed $30. I also intended to cut down on sugar, and I succeeded, as evidenced by my improved health indicators.
We may draft our plans, and sometimes, things don't go as expected. Yet, crafting these plans is a positive endeavor. Whether you believe in a higher power or not, making plans is a valuable exercise.
Will you set your resolutions for this week?
