Innovative Approaches to Cannabis Socialization: Arend Richard
Written on
Chapter 1: Breaking Barriers with Cannabis
Arend Richard believes that everyone should experience cannabis with their loved ones at least once a month. He argues that this practice could help dismantle many superficial barriers, especially among family and close friends.
In the telecommunications industry, customer experiences often feel fragmented and frustrating. However, companies are beginning to take control of device-related interactions to improve customer experience (CX) in areas like trade-ins, repairs, and maintenance. This can be achieved by integrating various channels and digitizing processes for both customers and employees, thereby creating a more unified experience.
Each telecommunications provider faces ongoing challenges from competitors and the risk of customer turnover. Satisfied customers are less likely to leave, and one effective strategy for retaining subscribers is to minimize friction in their device-related journeys. By ensuring a smooth process for repairs or upgrades across various channels, businesses can significantly reduce churn rates. MCE's digital-first device lifecycle management platform embodies this promise.
In this article, we had the opportunity to converse with Arend Richard, an accomplished entrepreneur, LGBTQ+ advocate, and passionate cannabis supporter who has successfully built numerous enterprises.
Richard is a pioneer in the cannabis industry and the founder of Cirrus Social Club, an upcoming venue set to open in Fall 2023. His goal is to create a safe, inclusive environment where people can gather and celebrate cannabis culture, effectively bridging the gap between cannabis and the hospitality industry.
Beyond Cirrus, Richard co-founded The WeedTube.com, the largest cannabis-focused social media platform, and initiated Canna4ClimateDay. He also co-hosted the Glitter Bong Bash, the first cannabis event tailored for the LGBTQ+ community. Additionally, he has authored two LGBTQ+ science fiction novels available on Amazon, showcasing his creativity.
Richard has a background in opera and has served on the board of the Colorado LGBT Chamber of Commerce. Currently based in Denver, he continues to make significant contributions through his various ventures and advocacy.
Section 1.1: Origins of a Vision
When asked about his journey, Richard reflects on how Colorado's legalization of cannabis in 2012 profoundly impacted his life. Initially recommended by his doctor to manage symptoms of Mastocytosis, a blood cell condition he was born with, cannabis became an essential resource. It replaced several medications and facilitated mental healing in ways he hadn't anticipated, enhancing his empathy and societal contributions.
This newfound passion for cannabis inspired Richard to create educational content, leading him to become a prominent YouTuber known as "The Gay Stoner" in 2017, amassing 190,000 subscribers. His channel became the top search result for "How to smoke weed," marking the beginning of his cannabis career. With his extensive hospitality experience and a flair for interior design, he is now poised to launch Cirrus Social Club.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Disruption of Social Spaces
Richard describes Cirrus as revolutionary, particularly in how it alters social interactions. While traditional venues promote alcohol consumption, which often leads to uninhibited behavior, Cirrus aims to foster deeper, more meaningful connections. Instead of numbing emotions, cannabis encourages guests to explore their authentic selves through shared experiences of laughter and healing.
Section 1.2: Lessons from the Journey
Richard recounts the challenges of timing when launching a new venture. He initially anticipated a six-month timeline for Cirrus's opening. However, through careful planning, he learned that patience is key to achieving a successful launch. This journey has taught him valuable lessons about refining their mission and brand.
Chapter 2: The Role of Mentorship and Disruption
Richard credits Miranda Cullen, the Principal Designer for "Inside Stories" in Colorado, as a significant mentor. Her resilience and guidance have inspired him throughout his journey, helping him navigate challenges with confidence.
Richard explores the concept of disruption, noting that while it often carries a positive connotation, it can also have drawbacks. Cirrus disrupts the nightlife scene in a beneficial way by offering unique experiences that resonate with contemporary desires for socialization. In contrast, he points to virtual reality as a less favorable disruptor, as it distances individuals from genuine connections.
Section 2.1: Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Richard envisions incorporating the cultural elements of each city where Cirrus opens, with Las Vegas being a potential next location in 2024. He aspires to create a venue where renowned entertainers can enjoy cannabis in an engaging environment, alongside exciting features like an all-you-can-eat dessert bar.
Section 2.2: Influential Ideas
Eckhart Tolle's book "A New Earth" has had a profound effect on Richard, teaching him to differentiate between his thoughts and his true self. This insight has been life-changing, allowing him to cultivate a deeper awareness of his mental processes.
Section 2.3: Life Lessons
One of Richard's favorite life lessons is, "You can't build the biggest skyscraper in the skyline by tearing the rest down; you have to focus on building yours the tallest." This advice from a mentor helped him concentrate on his own goals rather than worrying about others in his field.
Section 2.4: Inspiring a Movement
Richard firmly believes that everyone should try cannabis with their loved ones monthly. He sees this practice as a powerful way to break down superficial barriers between people.
