Statistics might provide some insight, but the pervasive cult of food remains undeniable. We live to eat and eat to live.

The TLC channel's reality show “1000 lb Sisters” features two American bloggers whose combined weight approaches 1000 pounds (approximately 450 kilograms). Amy, the thinner sister at 200 pounds, is married, while her sister Tammy, weighing nearly 660 pounds, is single. Their journey with Dr. Proctor for gastric surgery raises questions about their futures and whether they will succeed.

Part 1: The Struggle with Compulsive Overeating Many teenagers face challenges like compulsive overeating, anorexia, or bulimia. Platforms like VKontakte have long been spaces for young girls to support one another in the pursuit of an unrealistic weight goal of “less than 40 kg.”

Compulsive eating is characterized by uncontrollable urges to consume food, often leading to the ingestion of incompatible items in massive quantities. What Defines Healthy Eating? The rise of the so-called healthy lifestyle can often lead to unhealthy obsessions. Although some addictions, like workaholism, are socially accepted, they can still signify a lack of self-awareness.

Orthorexia, characterized by an obsessive focus on healthy eating, can be detrimental as well. While striving for health is commendable, it can become problematic when it leads to restrictive behaviors or anxiety around food choices.

Healthy eating should encompass the following principles:

  1. Mindfulness: You should think about food primarily when you're hungry, not obsessively throughout the day.
  2. Flexibility: Understanding your dietary restrictions, such as lactose intolerance, while also being adaptable when faced with less preferable options, like vegan pizza with tomatoes.
  3. Scientific Awareness: You should base your dietary choices on reliable evidence, such as maintaining a balanced protein intake.
  4. Honesty: It's essential to have a clear understanding of what you consume, rather than presenting a facade of healthy eating during the day while indulging in unhealthy snacks at night.
